Habitat
Pine forests on sandy soils; mycorrhizal with pine.
Season
August–November
Verified

Identification

Gray cap, white→pale-yellow gills, whitish stem with yellow tones; smell mealy. Under pines, late season.

Edibility

Good edible — the yellow-tinged gills distinguish it from poisonous gray tricholomas.

In practice

  • Gray cap + yellowish gills + pine forest + late autumn = grey tricholoma.
  • Without the yellow tinge — compare against tiger tricholoma (scaly, white-gilled, poisonous).
