Clusters on poplar/willow wood: brown cap, ring on the stem, gills browning with age. Cultivated commercially as "pioppino."

Good edible — firm and nutty; caps and young stems used.
In practice
- Poplar wood + brown cap + ring = pioppino.
- As always with clustered wood mushrooms, compare against the bordered galerina — smaller, rusty spores, no real ring.
