Habitat
Deciduous and coniferous woods, forest paths and edges.
Season
July–October
Verified

Identification

Pale yellowish cap with whitish veil patches, white gills, ring, volva. Smell earthy/raw-potato. Confused with the death cap in its pale forms and with edible species.

Why it is dangerous

Classed as inedible to poisonous: the amanita ring + volva signature is enough reason to discard; related pale species carry amatoxins. The risk is confusion, not this species' own mild toxicity.

In practice

  • Any amanita — ring plus volva — stays in the forest unless you can name the exact species.
